Deadwoods is a term used to describe Elvish establishments reclaimed by the elements. There are many such areas, and they are considered sacred by the elves. Their lore speaks of reclaiming these territories, but treaties with the humans in the surrounding areas prevent reclamation from being more than talk and legends.
