The history of the world is the combined history of the actions of the mortal races and immortal races, in all places on Rhila, beginning with the Pre-Fall Era to the current year. This surpasses the sum of the knowledge available for general consumption at The Library at Dopha Etho, and oftentimes relies on archeology and written documents. For the purposes of study, the 23700-odd year history of Rhila is divided into named eras.
Contents
First Cycle
While little information or evidence survived this period, it is commonly accepted that the Pre-Fall Era was a deity-made utopia that existed from the first year to the year 200, when the First Goddess War broke out. It is considered the First Cycle, but also goes by the more religious name "Pre-Fall Era".
Second Cycle
The second cycle is reckoned from the start of the First Goddess War to the beginning of the Second Goddess War.
Post-Fall Era
In the middle of the year 200, Abhirati made war on Alanna in what is known as the First Goddess War. Evidence indicates that the war lasted fifteen years. However, the Post-Fall Era indicates the time from the start of the war to around 1200.
The Great Awakening
Beginning in 1201, the very first advancements in magical theory and experiment-driven discovery display themselves. Innovations in agriculture, medicine, and science helped the burgeoning middle-class and leisure class. These became the supporters for the initial magocracies.
There were few, if any, regulations and safety precautions, which lead to hazardous conditions in-and-around wizard establishments. This lead to the demise of the era in 2980.
Elf Light (2981 - 4310)
With the fledging magocracies largely in ruin, the elvish empires expanded their influence and control. This period ended when the elvish territories began to fall, starting with the Ra'dranni Territories.
Third Cycle
The third cycle is reckoned from the start of the Second Goddess War to the beginning of the Third Goddess War.
Era of Ausum
As the old empires collapsed under the weight of the Second Goddess War, in 4310, and the last of the wizards' holds decayed, the merchant and tradesman classes rose to form plutocracies and republics. This era ended when the resource-driven war between the humans and the dwarves came to a head, driving the dwarves deep into the mountains in the year 4999. Many dwarven governments today still reflect those mercantile family units.
Prevari Era
Several internal disputes had weakened the merchant and trader groups currently in political power. With a several plagues ripping through cities, wizards were turned to for answers. This lead to the period we know as the Prevari Era, after the wizard of the same name. The wizards of this era would lay the foundation for the libromancers of the next. Great strides in medicine and pathology were achieved. It is commonly accepted that the years for this era stretch from 5000 to 6324.
Fourth Cycle
The fourth cycle is reckoned from the start of the Third Goddess War to the beginning of the Fourth Goddess War.
Era of Open Earth (6324 - 7100)
When the Crown of the Oracles was finished and in Abhirati's control, the Era of Open Earth began. Anarchy typified the time, with an entrenched feudalism springing up at the end of the era.
Swordborn Era (7101 - 8250)
With the Goddess War long resolved, prosperity and order came once again to the world. Feudalism gave way, naturally, to capitalism. The Swordborn Era ended with the death of the last robber baron.
First Great Empire (8251 - 9333)
Small democracies and representative democracies gave way within the first two centuries to monarchies. By the third, there existed only a three main powers. Each began warring with the other, and soon a single victor emerged. Without real competition, the First Great Empire spread across Silice, Morida, and Trawen. This lead up to the circumstances that permitted Urthos to inspire the uprising.
Fifth Cycle
The fifth cycle is reckoned from the start of the Fourth Goddess War to the beginning of the Fifth Goddess War.
Age of Orders (9333 - 11350)
After the Empire's collapse and Abhirati's defeat, wizards, now known as libromancers since the advancements made, were more than happy to take up the space left by the power vacuum. Taking control over the local governments and resources, these organizations were the first true magocracies.
The end of the Age of Orders is marked with the destruction of the first order, Order of the Corvidae Libellus.
Dvrask Era (11350 - 12900)
Named after the Paragon Dvrask, the Dvrask Era was a period of learning and advancement in magic and civilization. What would become the University of Rak'Than paired up with the other contemporary establishments of the day to research the workings of Rhila. In the years after the Grand Paragon's death, the Order of Dvrask became the Prime Order.
400 Years War (12900 - 13300)
When the Order of Dvrask fell silent due to internal conflict, the remaining Orders were left vying for the now vacant title of Prime Order. Evenly matched, the Ordinae Apis and Gelu Ordinem amassed the other Orders under their respective banners. War raged across the continents.
The first instances of the Grey Plague can be traced to this war.
In the last 20 years of the war, most of the Orders had been dissolved or distorted. The few that remained were weakened. Several of these were overthrown by their local populations, the most effective of which was the destruction of the Order of the Burning Elm, which was filled with an explosive material over the course of several weeks.
The Enlightenment (13301 - 15990)
The period known as The Enlightenment is considered a moral and educational awakening for Rhila. Great philosophers talked on life and ethics in on the sunset of a great war.
Where the formal learning of the various mortal races commonly included only educators from their own species, the Enlightenment was responsible for the expansion seen today. Classical theology, new sciences, and fiction by non-human authors became quite common and popular in human dominated cities like Rak'Than.
Sixth Cycle
The sixth cycle is reckoned from the start of the Fifth Goddess War to the beginning of the Sixth Goddess War.
The Rending (15991 - 16314)
Middle Era (16315 - 17500)
The Great Advancement (17501 - 18189)
Seventh Cycle
The seventh cycle is reckoned from the start of the Sixth Goddess War to the beginning of the Seventh Goddess War.
The Great War (18190 - 19723)
Eighth Cycle
The eighth cycle, which is the current cycle, is reckoned from the beginning of the Seventh Goddess War until the current era.
Era of Silence (18723 - 20000)
Second Great Empire (20000 - 21400)
(21401 - 23000)
