Rak'Than
Rak'Than, along with her sister city Rak'Thul, rests inside the caldera of a dormant volcano. The two cities are split by the river that flows out of the Mirrored Sea.
Founding
Rak'Than was established in the year 500 by an Archmagus who ordered the citizens of Riverhelm to relocate to the caldera in order to provide a "defense from the loss of tranquility in the world" caused by the First Goddess War.
This Archmagus drew up a city plan spanning both sides of the caldera. The first plans were that of an oddly efficient city laid out in a grid. Streets that ran northwest to southeast were given the names of locally grown alchemical ingredients, and the streets that ran northeast to southwest were numbered beginning with northernmost street. Construction began on the west side of the river, establishing the dock and nearby residential area. A quarter of the residents of Riverhelm moved immediately.
Within the span of a year, there was a surge in animal and beast attacks. The events culminated in a wort attack that claimed the lives of three families with small children. The Archmagus, along with his personal guard, dispatched the menace and implored those still residing there to leave with him.
The particular speech endeared the Archmagus to the populous and cemented his position as the leader of the newly founded Rak'Than. The office was called the Paragon and was appointed state duties along with a personal guard called the Guardians. At the Archmagus's death, the office of the Paragon was made an elected office in accordance with his last wishes.
Civil Unrest
In six generations, the Paragon had become an officially hereditary position.
The Paragon was demonstrated to be to be corrupt, the people rebelled and many broke off to create their own city in the unfinished area in the caldera, establishing Rak'Thul.
The existing government was redistricted and separated the Paragon into the system that exists currently.
